"They say that there is darkness within everyone. Most of us just don't know it yet..."

A tall, black fox named Shadz walked through the field alone, his green pant legs and bare paws becoming lightly dusted with various pollens from the surrounding flowers. The sky above was quickly turning a dark, angry gray. As his green and blue eyes looked up to the sky, the first raindrop splashed across his nose. "(sigh) Well, that's just fucking wonderful. Something else to go wrong." Shadz began to quicken his pace as the drizzle quickly turned into an intense downpour. This seemed to be Shadz luck lately. One by one, more and more of his friends seemed to lose contact with him, some severing all ties with him completely. Shadz was a person with little in this world, but friends were one of the few things he had. Even Shadz' long time love had departed from him. In Shadz' eyes, he was quickly losing everything he had. The fox pondered this as he ran for dry shelter, but after a few minutes of running, Shadz stopped.

"What's the point? I can't escape from any of this. Time after time, friend after friend, they all turn their backs on me..." Shadz clenched his fists tightly at his sides as the negative thoughts raced through his mind. 'My friends, one after another, they'll all leave me...' Tears slowly leaked from the corners of Shadz' eyes as he thought about the one who left that affected him the most. "Why did she leave me...I loved her..." Shadz whispered to himself as he thought about his former love. She was the only girl Shadz ever felt feelings of love for. And now she was gone. As the thoughts raced through his head, the storm around him began to intensify, almost as if it was reacting to the fox's pain. As the thoughts nearly became too much to bear combined with the pain, anger, and sadness, something within Shadz snapped. Something that had laid dormant for a long time, unknown to everyone, including Shadz himself.

Shadz threw his head back as he screamed in agony, the surrounding thunderstorm erupted with fierce bolts of lightning and deafening thunder, nearly drowning out the black fox's screams. Shadz dropped to his knees and elbows, clutching his head as his screams continued. Through the pain, Shadz subconsciously wished for his friends to come and help him, but he knew that they wouldn't. Suddenly, Shadz heard a voice speak to him, so vivid, it sounded as though it was right beside him.

'Shadz...listen to me...'

The fox slowly opened his eyes and although still in intense pain, responded to the mysterious voice. "Who...are you..." He asked.

'Isn't it obvious? I'm you, Shadz. Well, I'm a part of you, anyway.'

Shadz' eyes widened as the voice continued to speak. 'Everyone has a darker side, Shadz. And now you've met yours.'

"What do you want from me?" Shadz asked "himself". Shadz' dark side began to speak once again. 'I can stop the pain, Shadz. I can free you from your hindering emotions. All you have to do is let me take over, and you will be free.' Shadz thought about it for a minute. "I can't...I can't do it..." Shadz' dark side was growing impatient with the fox. 'Think about it! What have your friends done for you lately, except cause you pain when they left!? And what about the girl? You have nothing left!!'

Shadz didn't want to admit it, but his other self was right. Everyone had left him. The next words Shadz uttered would change him forever.

"Maybe you're right..."

'That's all I needed to hear...'

In an instant, Shadz fell over limp, almost as if he had died. After a few moments, Shadz slowly rose to his feet, but something was different. As he opened his eyes, they held no shine whatsoever, they appeared dull and lifeless. Almost as though the very soul had been extracted from the fox's body. As he slowly grinned an evil grin, one thing was for certain: Shadz would never be the same again.

To Be Continued...?
Just a story I wanted to mess with to get back in the feel of things.
